Nick Symmonds Deadlift Training

So, as you guys know. This blog is documenting my training. I am building up to the challenge of performing a 500Lbs Deadlift and going straight into a sub five minute mile run. I am aiming to attempt the challenge during summer time next year (2022). However, I have mentioned a few times that both Ryan Hall and Nick Symmonds are also in training for this challenge. Both of them are hoping to be successful in the challenge this year. Here I’m taking a look into Nick Symmonds deadlift training.

Deadlift Training

It is useful for me, and also just interesting, to keep an eye on how they are progressing towards the challenge.

Ryan Hall has already made his first attempt at the challenge:

However, Nick Symmonds has not yet made an attempt on the challenge. What he has recently done, though, is post a video that reveals where he is currently at with his Deadlifting:

So Nick Symmonds, based on the above video is currently able to Deadlift 440lbs – which (seeing as my weights are in Kg – and so for training purposes I always report numbers in Kg) is 199.5Kg.

Nick Symmonds 200Kg Deadlift

Essentially, Nick Symmonds is able to do a 200Kg Deadlift right now. That’s almost 20Kg more than I have ever Deadlifted. Although, my Deadlift progression has been going very well. In actual fact, my aim for the end of the year is to Deadlift at least 200Kg.

So it is interesting to see that Nick is currently where I hope to be in terms of Deadlift strength in three months time. Also, it was interesting to see Nick did not use lifting straps or a lifting belt in his Deadlift attempt. Ideally, I will also be capable of Deadlifting 200Kg by the end of the year. Ideally this will be without the use of either lifting straps or a lifting belt.

The way my training is currently going I feel semi-confident of achieving the 200Kg by the end of the year. My most recent Deadlift session was 160Kg for eight sets of three reps. This is without the use of either lifting straps or a lifting belt. Yes 160Kg is still quite a long way off 200Kg. But this was a reasonably high volume session. So I would be able to go a reasonable amount heavier for just a single repetition, and I also have three months worth of progression ahead of me. So, I am hopeful!
